Depression is a very common health condition and often goes unnoticed.  If not managed well, it can affect how you think, feel and behave and lead to emotional, mental and physical problems.

Signs of depression include altered sleep habits, loss of interest in life, suicidal thoughts, feeling sad all the time, overeating or loss of appetite, lack of energy, feeling helpless, excessive crying, poor concentration

8 ways to manage Depression

Start a daily routine: Setting a simple daily schedule can help you get back in track and give you control over your life

Set daily goals: When you’re depressed, you may feel like you can’t accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. Set daily goals for yourself, like going for a walk, meeting a friend, finishing an assignment or reading a book

Watch what you eat: If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. Replace all the junk food with healthy foods like whole grains, fruits, proteins, vegetables

Get enough sleep: Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom (phone, computer and no TV)

Start an exercise plan: Exercise does wonders to your mind and body. Exercise helps release endorphins that help fight stress and depression. Going for  30 minute walks 4-5 times a week can help you a lot.

Fight back negative thoughts: When you’re depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. Use logic as a natural depression treatment. It takes practice, but in time you can beat back those negative thoughts before they get out of control.

Do something new. When you’re depressed you seem to be stuck in a zone. . Push yourself to do something different. Trying something new alters the levels of dopamine (a brain chemical), which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning

Seek help from your doctor and/or a counselor: Admit that you need help and consult a doctor. Be willing to ask and accept help and start treatment if needed

I would suggest not to feel Shy in meeting a Doctor (Neuro Phsyciatrist) as immediate measure if you are going through Major depression disorder.. Depression hit the person with numerous negative thoughts .. Over the period of time with right treatment and healthy habits, environment the person can gain back control . CBT therapy is widely discussed as option to control the thoughts.. Remember Smoking and Drinking are fuel to the fire and they have never been / they never will be any help . It would be pleasure to discuss on this Topic and my email address is : [email protected] .
