As the world advances, the joy of motherhood is slowly being overshadowed by the difficulties related to conceiving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. The subtle changes in environment and our ultra-modern lifestyle are many times the cause of issues surrounding the topic of fertility now. While it may be true that there are women who conceive without much hassle, research shows that most women aren’t aware of how their fertility drops and how early that can start to happen.

Here are some common everyday habits that can affect your fertility:

1 . Stress

Recent studies on the physiological effects of stress shows that stress of any kind plays a negative role in conception. Chronic stress alters ovulation by regulating signals to the hypothalamus, the center of the brain that regulates hormones which ultimately triggers the ovaries to release eggs. Women who undergo constant stress may ovulate less regularly, making it almost impossible to conceive when they most want it. Research also shows that women with higher levels of stress have higher amount of alpha-amylase in their body which makes conception even more difficult.

2 . Smoking

The adverse effects of smoking cigarettes are evident in both in male and female fertility. In women specially, smoking is known to cause reduced gonadotropin-stimulated ovarian function. Smoking is also known to be associated with ectopic pregnancy and miscarriages. Secondhand smoke too exposes you to poisonous chemicals. So if you want to get pregnant and have a smoking habit, it is time to stop smoking
