8 Anti-Ageing Foods You Must Start Having

final

There is no way to stop time in its tracks. Ageing being a natural process depends largely on our genes. However, there are external factors that studies prove can hasten or slow the process down. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can potentially damage the skin beyond repair. Stress results in perils as obesity, wrinkling of the skin and a heightened blood pressure. The free radicals present in the air we breathe and food that we eat is another promoter of the ageing process. With the passing of time our bodies become weaker, metabolism slows down and immunity diminishes.

By eating right, staying well hydrated and following an exercise regimen you can combat the harmful effects of free radicals and environmental factors that promote ageing.

There are some foods that are known for their anti-ageing properties. These include:

1 . Pomegranate

Pomegranates are rich in Vitamin C which negates the effect of harmful UV rays on the skin. Besides, the fruit is packed with antioxidants that destroy free radicals and give the skin a smooth and supple look. Have one on alternate days for best results.

2 . Berries

Blueberries and raspberries are the best of the lot. They contain flavonoids, polyphenols, vitamins, probiotics, and tons of antioxidants. They are free-radical scavengers and protect the skin against environmental factors that cause ageing. Add berries to your breakfast cereals, carry them as a snack or add them to your smoothies and shakes.

3 . Spinach

Spinach contains many phyto-nutrients and antioxidants including vitamins K, C and E which limits the damage caused by the harmful UV rays. Spinach has a high iron content that strengthens bones and the hair and its beta-carotene helps keep the skin soft and supple. Try at least five portions each week for best results.

4 . Eggs

They contain high-quality proteins, essential minerals and vitamins which combat the free radicals within the body and delay the ageing process. Having one boiled egg per day would be a good way to fight the ageing process.

5 . Garlic

Garlic is a  natural immunity booster and contains Vitamins B6 & C, Manganese, Selenium and fiber. It lowers harmful LDL cholesterol and high blood pressure. Having a raw clove every day is best or try flavoring your daily fare with garlic paste or powder.

6 . Onions

Onions are packed with ‘quercetin’, an antioxidant that recuperates damaged cells and raises the good cholesterol level of the body. Add raw onions to your daily salads or garnish your dishes with raw grated onions.

7 . Nuts

Snack on a handful of almonds or walnuts or peanuts between meals instead of fried/processed food. Nuts contain good fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals which slows the ageing process. Besides, nuts are great for the heart and lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

8 . Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a rich source of antioxidant Vitamin C which helps builds collagen that keeps the skin firm and plump. The ‘Lycopene’ contained in tomatoes improves the circulation and prevents UV damage. Have raw tomatoes in salads daily or add them to curries and soups.
